I have been known all of my life as essentially a non-drinker. Lately however, I've become interested in building a decent stock in our home bar and trying out different drinks. I can credit 2 things with piquing my interest in cocktails - our good friend Scarlette Saintclair's book "Scarlette's Sinful Spirits" and the never-ending references to brandy in classic films. A lady is feeling a bit puny? Give her some brandy. Somebody needs a little pick-me-up? Brandy to the rescue!
Off to the liquor store I went! Brandy, creme de cacao, Ketel One Peach and Orange Blossom vodka (which has become a personal favorite but more about that later), and Angel's Envy bourbon were tops on my list.
Here in Florida we have already had some particularly hot days. If you're looking for something light, tasty and refreshing you really owe it to yourself to try out the Ketel One Botanicals line of vodkas. The Orange and Peach Blossom variety is absolutely delicious with club soda and a splash (or in my case a double splash) of grenadine. But be warned, it is so refreshing you ay end up drinking it down faster than would be prudent. Note: One of my friends is following the keto diet so I looked it up and yep, no carbs in the Ketel One Botanicals!
Interesting fact... my husband is allergic to red and yellow dye. I had all of my goodies in my cart at the store and realized the grenadine I had picked off the shelf had to be chock full of red dye. I looked at the label and put it right back on the shelf. Fortunately there was an alternative, Barsmith grenadine has no artificial colors or flavors. I have since found it to be more pleasantly flavored than the usual grenadines available at most liquor stores.
